405tv Interview: Vondelpark

July 27, 2013

Longtime friends Lewis Rainsbury, Alex Bailey and Matt Law are the trio behind Vondelpark, who first came to the world’s attention in 2011 via two bad-ass EPs titled NYC Stuff And NYC Bags and Sauna.

Their somewhat elusive Internet presence added to the intrigue of the R&S-signed act at first, allowing the R&B indebted beats and fuzzy, vibe-ridden stoner melodies do the talking for them. Fast-forward two years later and debut album Seabed has shown a maturity in sound; gone are the lo-fo aesthetics and in comes a rich set of production values for a deeply mellow, absorbing experience – all under a disperate set of genres. Read our review here.

We met up with the chaps where they played a few games of pool at Canavan’s Pool Hall in Peckham where they discussed debut album Seabed, esoteric genre names (underwater-sideways-pop a favourite they say) and the story of how a laptop containing all their samples got stolen in Amsterdam and how it affected them.

You can watch the interview below, or via our TV Section. It’s also available via our Youtube page (please watch in HD when possible).
