Listen: Dam Mantle – ‘Spirit’

Dam Mantle

Dam Mantle released the gloriously textured and somewhat disquieting slice of electronica in the form of the We EP over the summer, echoing contemporaries of modern British cut-up kings Gold Panda, Seams et al.

Five months on and in moodier and more-suited winter-climes, Tom Marshallsay (the anti-moniker) last night boshed a new track on Soundcloud, ‘Spirit’. The headline is that it’s a fair old departure from previous work, a smoother and less cluttered affair aside from the jazz-influenced percussion loop, prone to odd bouts of craziness.

Not a lot of information is available on the track – aside from some words by Gregory Corso, the seminal and arguably overshadowed poet from the beat-generation and close friend of Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, and William S. Burroughs; and is only second to Kerouac in getting published from the collective.

Also if you’re in London on the night of 06/12/11 you may want to head to Plastic People for what is a marvellous line-up, as Dam Mantle is playing alongside Peaking Lights and Paul White – with Patten DJing also. Exactly, phwoar.
